Traveling with Healthy Skin: Part I

June 27, 2013

Our bodies react to our traveling behaviors. Whether it’s for a business trip or relaxation, our bodies and especially our skin can tell when something is out of the norm. Your skin will go through temperature and humidity changes, no matter what mode of transportation. When there are bumps along the road, you don’t want to have bumps on your skin. That is why it’s important to have a game plan for your traveling skincare routine.

• Begin with developing a good skincare routine prior to traveling. Forming those habits before your trip will make it easier when you finish that long day of meetings, shopping or lounging by the pool.
• Among these habits should be increasing your water intake. Not only will this flush out toxins in your body, but it will also keep your skin hydrated.
• No matter the reason for traveling, use your time of transit to relax a little. Take deep breaths at the beginning of your flight, ride, etc. and the end. If you are on your way to a business meeting, glance over your notes then take a break. Relax so you can be glowing with confidence and not glistening with anxiety.
• Start your trip with a clean face. Washing your face before you leave will wake you up and have you feeling fresh.
• Then, MOISTURIZE! This is extremely important while traveling by air or train. The cabin pressure and lack of humidity can dry out your skin. Pack a travel-sized moisturizer or facial mist and use it every hour or two.
• Because moisturizing while traveling is so important, it is even more important to avoid wearing makeup. As you moisturize, your makeup could clog up your skin and cause a break-out before you trip officially starts.

Check back in our next post for Part II. If you have any questions about skin protection or any changes in your skin, please call us today at 865-690-9467. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness. Schedule an appointment with one of our board certified physicians to get your skin the care it needs so it can reach its fullest, healthiest potential.
