It’s almost beach season, and we’re definitely hitting the gym before summer hits. Exercising gets the blood pumping, which promotes healthy circulation, nourishes skin cells with plenty of oxygen and keeps your skin vibrant. While the benefits of exercising are great for your body and skin, not adhering to a workout skincare routine can leave your skin worse off.
Pre-workout skin prep is not the end-all be-all of this routine. If you can spare a few minutes, use a non-drying cleanser followed by an alcohol-free toner and lightweight lotion. If you’re going for a run or doing something outdoors, use a moisturizer with SPF for added protection.
During your work out, be sure to keep your hands off your face. The sweat mixed with the oils and bacteria from your hands equals a huge skin catastrophe. Keep hair away from your face too. It’s best to use a headband or braid your hair back, but do not wear a headband or bandana on your forehead. This concentrates the bacteria and makes your post-workout glow more like a splotch.
Post-workout skincare is the most important part of this routine. Now that you’ve sweated and grunted your way to a healthier you, wash away all that grime with a mild gel cleanser or lightweight cleansing lotion. Wipe skin with a toner then apply moisturizer.
