Summer Skin Recovery

August 26, 2014

Beautiful woman enjoying in a sunny autumn day.

As easy as it is to convert a summer dress for fall with a sweater and boots, it’s just as easy transitioning your skincare routine each season. Your Knoxville Dermatology Group gathered some tips on how to keep your summer glow while the weather cools down.

Avoid anything harsh or extreme. This includes keeping the temperature of your showers and baths from getting too hot, even when it’s cold outside. Start including creamier moisturizers in your routine for both your body and your face. This will help create a barrier for your skin against the elements.

Another way to keep your skin balanced through any seasonal transition is a balanced diet. Omega 3-rich foods and antioxidant rich foods make a big difference in the way your body feels and how your skin looks.

Last, but certainly not least, apply sunscreen every day. Even when you are covered in layers of sweaters, scarves and jackets, you still need to apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 30. The sun’s harmful rays can still burn your skin in cooler weather and on overcast  days. So protect your face, neck and hands every day because healthy skin is in season all year long!

Call us today at 865-690-9467 for help with your fall skincare routine or if you have any questions about your skin. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness. Schedule an appointment with one of our board certified physicians to get your skin the care it needs so it can reach its fullest, healthiest potential.

Adjusting Skincare Routine for Spring

March 4, 2014

Keeping skin healthy means paying attention to what you put inside your body, as well as being mindful of your surroundings. In the winter, for instance, when temperatures and moisture are low, it’s important to keep lotions and moisturizing creams on hand. In the springtime, our skincare routine has a different focus. Read below for our warmer-weather skincare tips:

Step Up the SPF

It is always important to stay UV protected, but in the winter we usually have more layers to cover our skin. Spring and summer means breaking out of that winter cocoon of clothes. It should also mean taking the extra step of lathering on sunscreen on shoulders and knees.

Scrub-a-Dub Dub

It’s much easier to ignore unwanted hair in the winter. After all, no one can see it under tights, jackets, gloves and scarves. A bit of maintenance is required before we shed our “winter coat.” Prior to any hair-removal treatments, try a full-body exfoliating scrub. This will help loosen and remove dead skin cells to make your hair removal easier. If you plan to use any sunless tanning products, the scrub is also good for more even and consistent results.
