Top Reasons To Protect Yourself from Counterfeit Beauty Products

April 29, 2019

It’s hard to resist a good deal. While the price may be enticing and the ease of delivery is taunting, how do you know what you’re purchasing is authentic? Counterfeit beauty products are more common than ever and continue to be sold online. Check out our tips below on how to protect yourself from counterfeit beauty products online.

  1. Look Closely

Pay attention to packaging. Counterfeit beauty products do a scary-good job at mimicking your favorite skincare serum. Look for any irregulates in the font, coloring of the packaging or placement of stickers. In addition, look at expiration dates on the packing. All cosmeceutical companies are required by law to have the shelf life of the product on the packaging.

  1. Do your research

Most of the time if a deal seems too good to be true, it is. Skin care companies work with authorized retailers and have this list available on their website. Double check their list of approved vendors before purchasing. Stray away from online marketplaces where you can’t be sure who the vendor is and if they got the product directly from the retailer. Often, counterfeit products contain harmful ingredients which can lead to life-long skin damage.

  1. Purchase from your dermatologist

To best protect yourself, purchase your skin care products directly from your dermatology office. Your provider will go over your skin care routine with you and make sure what you are using is working to best protect your skin.

Skin Care Tips For Every Age

Skin Care Tips For Every Age

Our skin evolves with age. Your skin isn’t the same in your 60’s as it was in your 20’s.  Should you be worried about acne or wrinkles? What can you do at your age to benefit your skin later? Your skin care routine should evolve as you age.

20’s & 30’s

Fighting acne is the main concern, especially in your 20’s. Water-based, oil-free wash is a safe staple to keep in your medicine cabinet. Keep your skin free of dirt and oil by removing makeup, washing your face and start a basic skin care regimen with a moisturizer and antioxidant every day. Wearing sunscreen every day will also help protect your skin from premature aging, even in the winter. This will help the signs of aging that begins to develop in your 30’s. Start using anti-aging lotion and vitamin A as soon as possible. Vitamin A helps smooth wrinkles and combats the signs of aging.

40’s & 50’s

The skin loses some of its texture and fullness in your 40’s. Wrinkles and age spots begin appearing as well. Products with peptides in them even out pigment and increase collagen growth. An estrogen drop in your 50’s may dry out your skin and decrease its elasticity. Combat this symptom of hormonal changes with glycolic acid, which helps increase skin cell production and turnover. Additionally, introduce a heavier treatment cream high in ceramides and natural cholesterol to replenish dry skin into the routine.

60+

Expand your skincare regimen to include all skin aspects. Apply SPF every day to keep the sun from advancing sun aging. Use cleansers that won’t dry out your skin and products with hydroquinone to help eliminate dark spots on the face hands. Keep up with your regular routine and continue to wash your face and apply your products daily.

Skincare Secrets From Around the World: Part 2

February 8, 2016

natural honey

Around the world, skincare products and routines differ based on the resources available and varying standards of beauty. Beauty radiates from the inside, but taking care of your outward appearance can help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin too. Here are some skincare secrets used across the globe:

Ghana

Made from the delicious plantains found in Ghana, African Black Soap, is packed with antioxidants your skin loves. The unique soap is made from a blend of ashes curated from plantain skins and palm leaves and mixed a combination of palm oil, honey and shea butter. There are different variations available for an assortment of skin issue. Often, the soap is also made with tea tree oil and tamarind extract to help treat problem skin.

Iran

In Iran and other parts of the Middle East, rose water is used to help rehydrate and strengthen the skin’s cells and regenerate skin tissue. Rose water is made by a process of distillation to help isolate the essential oils. It is ever popular in toners and facial mists, as it helps to restore the skin’s natural pH levels with a luxurious and refreshing feel.

Chile

After touching the slimey ooze left by snails, Chilean farmers noticed that the skin on their hands were softer and significantly smoother. Snail mucin, more commonly referred to as snail mucin, contains many acids, enzymes and peptides that are already found in beauty products around the world. The hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, proteoglycans, and antimicrobial and copper peptides all help to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, scars and hyperpigmentation while hydrating the skin.

United Kingdom

The skincare industry in the United Kingdom is all abuzz with this beloved ingredient—bee venom! Believe it or not, bee venom (in carefully measured proportions) is extremely beneficial to the skin. Bee venom contains a toxin called melittin that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, both essential factors in keeping the skin’s youthful structure. Basically, products that contain bee venom will trick your skin into “being stung” to reap the benefits of collagen and elastin production. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label and never apply actual bee venom onto your skin!
