Sleeping in your makeup has long been known as a sin of skincare. Yet, at some point in our lives, we’ve all been guilty of face-planting into our pillows – mascara and all. Sleeping in your makeup is terrible for your skin, whether you’re tired from a long day or a fun night out with the girls! Here are a few reasons why you should always wash off your makeup before hitting the sheets.
Mascara
Sleeping in mascara can be detrimental to your lashes. We strive to have bold and long eyelashes, but leaving your mascara on overnight can cause your lashes to become brittle and break. Mascara particles can also clog your hair follicles to cause irritation and bacteria, such as blepharitis and conjunctivitis.
Foundation
Leaving your foundation on overnight can cause major acne breakouts. By holding on to the dirt, oil and dead skin cells that occur throughout the day, your pores can become clogged. Certain ingredients in foundation can cause a breakdown of collagen and result in wrinkles. Zits and blackheads may also pop up if you don’t take off your makeup and follow your daily skin care routine.
Lipstick
Sleeping in your lipstick can make your lips anything but kissable. Leaving any lipstick on overnight can cause dryness and chapping. You can also ingest your lipstick as you are sleeping. The pores around your mouth may get clogged and cause tiny blackheads around your mouth. Keep your lips beautiful by removing lipstick thoroughly every night.
Eyeshadow
Sleeping in your eyeshadow has similar effects as mascara. Leftover eyeshadow particles can get into follicles and pores to cause irritation and redness. Styes are also a threat if you leave your eyeshadow on overnight.
Healthy and beautiful skin is a goal we all want to achieve. Although we might wish we could wake up with our makeup and hair ready to go, it is important to wash your face every night before bed. No matter how tired you may be, get your skin comfortable before you do.
