The Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol is expected to be one of college football’s biggest events this year, when the University of Tennessee Volunteers take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. Will you be among the roughly 160,000 planning to attend on Sept. 10?

While kickoff isn’t until 8 p.m., it doesn’t mean you should forego protecting yourself from the sun. Many spectators will be spending their time ahead of the game outside tailgating with family, friends and fellow fans.

Remember sun exposure and its UVA rays can result in accelerated skin aging including wrinkles and age spots. It also contributes to increased risk of skin cancer.

But there are some simple things you can do to protect yourself. Here are a few to consider:

Sunscreen

Apply plenty of sunscreen about 20 minutes before heading outside. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day.

Light Clothing

Wear lightweight, loose clothing, which provides better protection. Also, show your support by wearing your favorite team’s baseball cap.

Shade

Pop up a shade tent at your tailgate spot for the ultimate sun protection. Canopy tents are designed for quick and easy set up and add a bit of flair to your party area.
