Warts 101

Warts are usually harmless but can cause some irritation, embarrassment and annoyance. Men, women and children all get these stubborn warts in virtually any part of the body. However, the most common place for warts are hands/fingers and feet. Warts can be contagious if an infected person comes in contact with someone’s open wound. Also, don’t pick at your wart because it can spread to other parts of your body.

There are many over the counter medicines and products out there for wart removal, but none get down to the root of the wart. Honestly, nothing works like going to your dermatologist. Two popular in-office treatments are Cryotherapy, which uses extremely cold temperatures to freeze the wart and cause the blemish to fall off, or lasers and electrotherapy to remove and cauterize warts using heat. Both are equally effective and depend on your preference and the stubbornness of your wart.

There are many treatments in our office that can help you. Call today at 865-690-9467 to schedule an appointment and discuss with your doctor the options for dealing with warts.

If you need more serious help with skin issues or something else that is troubling your skin, we are here to help. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness.
