Skin Secrets: How to Get Dewy, Glowing Skin

The trick to a youthful complexion? Miraculously dewy skin so supple that even your dermatologist might get jealous? This spring, get your glow on with a skin care routine that will not only hydrate your skin, but also protect you from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

First, drink lots of water. Up to 60 percent of your body is water, so if you aren’t properly hydrated, your skin and overall health will suffer. A lack of water will show with dullness, baggy eyes and dry skin. Plus, drinking water will help flush out impurities and toxins.

Also, look for cleansers that are gentle. If you’ve been blessed with non-problematic skin, a normal cleanser will work fine. But if you suffer from dryness or acne, be sure to use a cleanser that will target those specific issues. You can choose a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or a variety of amino acids, brightening agents or hydropeptides.

The most important step is to moisturize! Use a moisturizer that contains SPF, so you can protect yourself from UV rays and avoid getting a sunburn. Flaking and red splotches are the opposite of dewy, glowing skin. You should always use a moisturizer, even if your skin is oily. Plus, if you wear makeup, you’ll want your skin to absorb the moisturizer rather than the oils and pigment from your makeup.
