Setting the Record Straight about Skincare Myths
In this day and age, there is a great deal of information available about skincare and skin health, but it’s important to look to board certified dermatologists when getting your information about these important skin issues. We’ve heard just about every skincare myth out there and much of the time folks are misinformed. We decided to take today’s blog post to set straight some commonly held beliefs about skincare that are actually myths. We never want anyone to feel bad about having the wrong information, but we’re here to help get you in the know. After reading this post, you might find that you’ve been wrong about a few things.
One common belief about skincare is one we like to call the “soap & water” myth. Folks tend to believe that scrubbing their faces with soap and water will keep skin healthy and acne free. Scrubbing your face with soap can remove some of the protective oils and barriers and can lead to rashes and burns. Plain soap can work for some, but often there are other issues that must be addressed. Only a board certified dermatologist can diagnose skin issues and help you formulate a perfectly tailored skincare regimen that will yield results.
Another skincare myth is thought of as the “pimple” myth. Many people believe that pimples should be popped to release the fluids. This is never a good idea because it can cause inflammation which often leads to scarring or spreading under the skin. It’s really important that people do not pick at their blemishes because many times this just leads to larger issues that will have to be dealt with down the road.
