Save the Spooky Faces for Halloween

October 29th, 2013

The beauty of Halloween is getting to step outside of your normal life as any character you want. Some costumes like a witch or clown take the full commitment of face paint and wigs. Although these are a hit at the party, your skin may take the hit with rashes or breakouts. Here are a few of our tips on how to save face with face paint:

  • Use the right paints – just because it says “non-toxic” does NOT mean it is appropriate to use on your face.
  • Avoid glitter. If you MUST have glitter, look for something that is made of polyester and 0.008 microns in size.
  • Make sure you use clean brushes and sponges when applying face paint.
  • Don’t paint over any open sores or rashes. Also, if you are painting more than one face, use new paints and sponges especially if anyone is ill.
  • Wash your hands before and after painting.
  • Look for water-based paints rather than oil-based paints to prevent breakouts.
  • Use makeup remover and wash off as much as you can. If you have any residue left, massage shaving cream then wipe it off with a washcloth.

Whatever you end up being this year, we hope you have a frightfully fun Halloween this year!
