Rosy Cheeks with Rosacea

During this time of year it seems like most everybody has rosy cheeks from the cold. However, there is a difference between slightly red cheeks from the cold winter wind and red cheeks all year round. Rosacea is a skin condition in which your skin, most notably your cheeks, turns a bright red color. It is harmless but can be embarrassing and uncomfortable.
Rosacea occurs when the blood vessels under the skin swell, and it is most common in those with fair skin. When your skin becomes red, it also feels warm to the touch and feels like you are blushing. It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause of rosacea. There are many things you can do to try and prevent a flushed face. First, use sunscreen and avoid prolonged periods of time in the sun. Second, reduce stress and reduce alcohol and spicy foods. Finally, don’t participate in physical activity in hot weather.
If these steps don’t seem to help with your rosacea, there are many treatments in our office that can help you.
