Halloween Face Paint Safety

Halloween allows kids to dress up as their favorite characters or even imaginary characters! You can create an outfit with props or go all out with face paint and wigs. If you do use face paint this year, be careful about what products you use to apply and remove it . To help you “save face,” your Knoxville Dermatology team has a few pointers and tips for you:
- Read the ingredients. “Non-toxic” doesn’t guarantee that it’s safe for your face.
- Avoid glitter, especially around the eyes. Polyester “glitter” is a great alternative.
- Be sure to use clean brushes and sponges when applying face paint. Also use new paints and sponges if at all possible when painting multiple faces.
- Do NOT paint over any open sores or rashes.
- Use makeup remover and wash off as much as possible. If there’s any residue left, massage the facial area with shaving cream then wipe it off with a washcloth.
Now go have a frightfully fun Halloween!
