Babies are vulnerable human beings that are more prone to disease than other segments of the population. So what should new parents know about their baby’s skincare?

Keep things plain. Use products that are hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free. A baby’s skin is very sensitive, and you don’t want it to become irritated due to perfumes or dyes in soaps.

Keep it simple. Babies do not need a lot of skin care early in their lives. They don’t even need to be bathed that often. Two to three times a week is a sufficient amount of baths for your young child as you want to preserve their skin’s natural oils. Bathing infants too frequently will remove these oils.

Avoiding diaper rash. You want to change your infant’s diaper as soon as you suspect they may have soiled themselves. Also be sure to wash your hands both immediately before and after changing a dirty diaper. Make sure that your baby’s skin is completely dry, too. Otherwise, your baby may develop diaper rash. Most cases of diaper rash are caused by simple skin irritation. However, it can also be caused due to fungal or bacterial infections. If your child’s diaper rash does not improve after a couple of days, you should take them to a doctor.

Dealing with cradle cap. Cradle cap is a form of seborrheic dermatitis that affects babies. It is a form of dandruff that typically occurs when a child is younger than four months old. Most of the time gently washing the affected area will cause the condition to clear up, but if it becomes a recurring problem, you should take your child to a doctor.
