Sure, the occasional bump and bruise happens and we try to be more careful walking up the stairs and near the coffee table. But lumps and bumps all over your body are cause for concern. Cysts are one skin condition that can cause these bumps on your body.

Cysts are noncancerous, closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid, pus or other material. Appearing anywhere on the skin, these bumps feel like large peas or metal balls under the surface of the skin. An infection, clogged oil glands or foreign bodies can cause cysts. These lumps are usually painless unless the rupture or become inflamed. Usually, they go away on their own but you may have to consult a doctor if the symptoms get any worse.

Treatment for a cyst will depend on various factors such as the type of cyst, where it is on your body, its size and the degree of discomfort it’s causing. Call one of our certified physicians if your cyst becomes very painful or red. This could be a sign of rupture or infection. But feel free to come in even before the pain and redness.

If you have any questions about cysts or about changes in your skin, please call us today at 865-690-9467. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness. Schedule an appointment with one of our board certified physicians to get your skin the care it needs so it can reach its fullest, healthiest potential.
