Bedtime Skincare and What You Can Do

June 26, 2012

There are many ways we can keep our skin healthy and some of them have to do with our nightly skincare regimens. In today’s Skin School blog, we are highlighting a couple of ways you can enjoy better skin by putting in a little extra effort at night.

Never Go to bed without Removing Makeup –

After a long day, it might be tempting just to go straight to bed without cleaning your face. But don’t make this mistake because skipping cleaning at night can lead to breakouts later.

During the day, environmental toxins like dirt and pollution build up on your skin and find their way into your pores. This can cause skin problems such as acne, enlarged pores, discoloration and other skin issues.

So always cleanse your face before bed. Even if you don’t wear makeup regularly, you should clean the day off your face before turning in for the night. Your skin will thank you!

Get Plenty of Sleep –

Not getting enough sleep can cause premature aging as well as dark under-eye circles and a dull complexion. Sleep is important because during this time our stress hormones drop to a normal level and this gives our cells time to repair and rejuvenate.

Stress raises the levels of the hormone cortisol, which increases oil production and can lead to bouts of acne. So make sure you’re not depriving yourself of the sleep you need.

If you could use some help in the area of skin care, we are here for you. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness. Schedule an appointment today with one of our board certified physicians to get your skin the care it needs so it can reach its fullest, healthiest potential.
