Have you noticed a new, asymmetrical wart on your skin and wonder the reason for its sudden appearance? You may want to hide it from view, but first you should have it examined by a certified dermatologist. Why? Squamous cell carcinomas, or SCC, are known to appear as wart-like growths on areas typically exposed to the sun’s rays. SCC can also form as rough, scaly red patches, open sores that don’t heal and raised growths or bumps.

During the summer months, the risks for developing SCC increase with long-term daily sun exposure. Individuals with light-colored skin or who sunburn easily are more susceptible to developing SCC. To protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays this summer, wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and reapply it every two hours, and cover up with a hat, sunglasses and long-sleeved shirts or pants.

If you think you have any symptoms of SCC, contact one of our certified dermatologists today.

If you have any questions about changes in your skin, please call us today at 865-690-9467. Skin health is an important part of total body wellness. Schedule an appointment with one of our board certified physicians to get your skin the care it needs so it can reach its fullest, healthiest potential.
