3 Quick Non-Surgical Fixes To Look Your Best

September 1, 2020

If you desire to look more youthful and feel better about yourself in 2020, we can help with these three quick and easy in-office cosmetic treatments.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that work by rebuilding the collagen in our skin, immediately restoring your natural and youthful appearance. You’ll look like you did 5-7 years ago, but no one will know! There are a variety of dermal fillers that we offer, and based on your skin type and desires, our board-certified dermatologists will determine the best one(s) for your skin needs. No matter which dermal filler is chosen, you will notice immediate results from a quick in-office visit! The most popular dermal fillers are the Juvederm and Restylane collections, which offer specific varieties to address the most common natural aging skin concerns, including facial lines and wrinkles, deflated lips, vertical lines around the lips, marionette lines around the mouth, deep nasolabial folds, hollowed cheeks, under-eye circles, and sagging jowls around the jawline.

Botox Cosmetic & Dysport Wrinkle Reducers

Botox is one of the most sought-after cosmetic treatments today. It is most commonly used to temporarily improve the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles. Areas treated include crow’s feet around the eyes, eleven lines in the glabellar area between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and laugh lines on your face. These wrinkles are creases in the skin due to making the same expression thousands of times over your lifetime. The great news is that Botox and Dysport work within a week to ten days after injection to help soften and smooth your skin’s appearance, lasting for 3 to 4 months.

Our goal is to take a more natural approach, injecting “sprinkles” and “baby Botox” techniques to avoid the frozen look. Combined with dermal fillers, Botox and Dysport can easily take years off your appearance, restoring your natural beauty and boosting your self-esteem.

In order to offer our patients the best pricing for dermal fillers and wrinkle-reducing treatments, we offer two manufacturers’ rewards programs to help you earn dollars off treatment costs. Anne Arundel Dermatology and our affiliate offices partner with both Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions Program and Galderma’s Aspire Rewards, which are designed to help you feel supported through your aesthetic journey with Juvederm and Botox or Restylane and Dysport treatments.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are ideal for treating and improving the effects of aging, photo-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, brown age spots, superficial scarring, acne, and melasma. Our licensed medical aestheticians and nurses apply a chemical solution, a salicylic, glycolic, or lactic acid, based on your skin type. The top skin layers are peeled away, allowing new, smoother, and tighter skin to come to the surface. This minimally invasive facial treatment achieves an improved appearance, more even skin tone and texture, and overall, a beautiful, healthy glow. In order to achieve a moreover full effect, we recommend regular treatments, which can occur within three to four weeks of each subsequent treatment.

The Guide to Cosmetic Lasers and Laser Hair Skin Treatments

The Guide to Cosmetic Lasers and Laser Hair Skin Treatments

People are always on the hunt for what will keep them looking younger. Laser skin treatments are not a new trend but seem to have gained popularity over recent years. Lasers are not a one-size-fits-all treatment, but there is a treatment out there for everyone.

How Does it Work?

Lasers use light energy to resurface the skin. This light energy is very precise, and targets damaged skin cells while preserving healthy skin cells.  Along with protecting the healthy skin cells, laser skin procedures also stimulate collagen growth.

Laser Treatments can help improve:

  • skin tone and texture
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • acne scars
  • sun-damaged skin
  • unwanted hair
  • unwanted tattoos
  • birthmarks
  • uneven skin tone
  • spider veins

Importance of Laser Treatments

Collagen production decreases as we age. This loss in collagen production leads to those pesky wrinkles and fine lines.  Laser skin resurfacing treatments are proven to help improve those fine lines and promote overall collagen stimulation. Along with treating fine lines and wrinkles, laser treatments can also target different pigments. Lasers can treat brown and red spots and improve melasma.

While most people associate lasers with cosmetic procedures, lasers have been instrumental in helping to treat certain skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, and even skin cancer. Laser light therapy is combined with topical agents to treat skin cancer and precancerous lesions.

Summer Skin Tips: Get Smoother Skin with Laser Hair Removal

Summer Skin Tips: Get Smoother Skin with Laser Hair Removal

Nothing is better than crawling into bed with smooth legs or stepping out onto the beach with full confidence that no hairs are peeking out. There are numerous ways to achieve gorgeous, smooth skin such as waxing or shaving but, most options require tons of maintenance. From a young age, people, especially women, have to maintain hair all over the body. Let’s be honest, it’s exhausting. Enough is enough! Say hello to smooth skin in just a few short weeks with laser hair removal. Continue reading to learn everything you need to know about laser hair removal and how it’ll change your life.

What You Need to Know

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective way to stop follicles from producing hair. This cuts down on the need for shaving and waxing, leaving your skin smooth and stubble-free. For each person, the laser hair removal process is unique. The amount of sessions and length of each session is dependent on the density of follicles the area possesses and which area you would like to treat. There are some important aspects of laser hair removal that you need to be aware of before considering if the treatment is right for you.

  • Hair Color: Lasers for hair removal cannot detect white, blonde, grey or red hair. If you have body hair this shade, there’s a chance you are not eligible for the treatment as the laser won’t be able to focus on hair follicles and possibly damage your skin.
  • Skin Color: It is a common misconception that you are ineligible for laser hair removal if you have a darker skin tone. This is actually false! Your skin color matters much less than the color of your leg hair for this treatment. However, lasers can interact differently with all skin tones, so be sure to talk to your dermatologist about the laser options offered and if they’re right for you.
  • Irritation: Laser hair removal feels a bit like a rubber band snapping against the skin. The process is much less irritating than any other form of hair removal, but it does occasionally leave a bit of redness and irritation. This should disappear within a few hours of the treatment.

Treatment Benefits

Still need some convincing that laser hair removal is right for you? Here are some of the top benefits of the treatment and why it is worth the cost.

  • Goodbye razors, shaving cream, and waxes! From the time you start shaving until you decide you’ve had enough, shaving products will always be in your shopping cart. A good razor costs around $15, which definitely adds up over a lifetime.
  • No more ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs can be uncomfortable and unruly. There are few good solutions to ridding your skin of them. With laser hair removal, the follicle actually becomes ineffective, so there is no opportunity for the pore to become clogged or the hair to become ingrown.
  • Minimal upkeep. Once you’ve completed your treatment, you will be given instructions on caring for your skin. You will no longer have to double-check your legs or quickly shave before throwing on a skirt or shorts. With laser hair removal, you will have the confidence to wear what you want, when you want.

Laser hair removal is a great way to make your beauty maintenance simpler and give you the confidence to show off your smooth skin at all times. Understanding the ins and outs of the treatment can help you make a more informed decision as to whether laser hair removal is right for you.

The dermatologists at Knoxville Dermatology Group and their MediSpa are professional and experienced and offer Vectus Laser Hair Reduction. To book your treatment, call Knoxville Dermatology Group today at (865) 342-5823 or visit their website.

Cleansers 101

March 8, 2019

Cleansing the skin is the first step in your beauty regimen. A good cleanser should wash away dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. Here are a few steps to follow to perfect your cleansing routine:

  • Remove make up first. Cleansers have a hard time removing stubborn sunscreen and makeup and won’t wash away all of your makeup and impurities.
  • Use lukewarm or room temperature water. Hot and cold water can lead to redness and irritation.
  • Use a gentle cleanser. Apply a dime-size amount of cleanser to a damp washcloth or your fingers.
  • Use an exfoliating cleanser 2-3 times a week to help with cell renewal.
  • Pat dry your face rather than rub. Rubbing can also irritate the skin.
  • Follow up with a moisturizer.
  • Always end with sunscreen, even if your moisturizer has SPF.

We carry cleansers that have been carefully selected for our patients. Here are a few of our best-selling cleansing products:

iSClinical Cleansing Complex – This lightweight cleansing gel is powerful, yet gentle enough for hypersensitive skin. Cleansing complex thoroughly cleanses the surface and pores of the skin without stripping essential natural oils, leaving skin soft and smooth.

Benefits:

  • Deep-cleanses skin and pores without drying
  • Excellent for blemish-prone skin
  • Gives the appearance of smaller pores
  • Smooths and softens
  • Excellent for shaving
  • Paraben-free

ZO Gentle Cleanser – this gentle cleanser is for all skin types and designed to remove impurities and leave the skin feeling refreshed, clean and hydrated.

Benefits:

  • Helps remove makeup
  • Deep cleans skin to remove oil and impurities
  • Helps promote hydration and leaves the skin feeling refreshed

A great exfoliating cleanser is:

ZO Exfoliating Polish – This exfoliating cleanser uses magnesium crystals to exfoliate dead skin cells and create a clear, smooth and even toned complexion.

Benefits:

  • Magnesium crystals provide exfoliation benefits
  • Instantly polishes skin to restore smoother texture and healthy glow
  • Removes dead skin cells to prevent clogged pores

These products are available at our office locations. To purchase products or to schedule a skin care consultation to see which products are best for your skin, please visit our website to schedule an appointment.

Give Yourself the Gift of New Health This Year

December 14, 2018

health, beauty, resort and relaxation concept – beautiful woman in spa salon getting face treatment

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s hard to take a moment and care for yourself. The holidays are a time for giving, so why not give yourself a gift? It’s important to take a moment before the new year to take inventory of your skin’s health and pamper yourself as well.

Why take care of your skin? Your skin is actually your largest organ. It helps protect you from the elements and help regulate your body temperature. However, because of this, your skin is extremely vulnerable. Did you know that over 20 percent of the United States population is affected by skin cancer? This is why the American Academy of Dermatology recommends getting a skin exam once per year. This is a great way to care for yourself. A skin check not only checks for skin cancer, but also marks areas that are precancerous or are cause for concern.

Knoxville Dermatology Group

Getting a skin check is also an excellent time to notify your dermatologist of any other issues that may be bothering you, such as dry skin, irritation or the development of symptoms that could lead to a more serious skin condition. During this time, you can work with your dermatologist to develop a treatment plan for any number of skin conditions. The dermatologists at Knoxville Dermatology Group are experts in over 3,000 skin conditions and have the experience to help you tackle your skin issues. This way, you can step into the new year as your best self.

MediSpa

Another way to gift yourself during the giving season is to book a pampering session at KnoxvilleDermatology Group’s MediSpa. The spa offers traditional day spa services as well as medical spa services. Traditional services include brow and lash tinting, facial waxing and facials. If you’re ready to put your skin on display in the new year, try out some of these phenomenal medical spa services, for gorgeous andlong-lasting results.

  • Juvedermâ: While Juvedermâ is mainly used to give the patient fuller lips, it has a number of great benefits to give you smooth, blemish-free skin. Benefits include a reduction in the appearance of scars, sagging and fine lines.
  • Pearl Laser: If you want those pesky sun spots and brown spots to go away, it may be time to get a Pearl Laser treatment. These treatments help lighten dark spots on the skin to give you a more even skin tone.
  • Chemical Treatments: Also known as chemical peels, MediSpa offers a number of medical grade peels, including a MediSpaprivate label peel. The treatments can improve a myriad of skin issues such as fine lines, aging, enlarged pores, acne and more.

This holiday season, take a moment to not only pamper yourself but care for your skin’s health. By having a skin check done, you can potentially save yourself from advanced skin cancer, as well as identify areas of concern. To make an appointment for a skin check, visit our website or call us at (865) 690-9467. For an appointment with ourMediSpa, please visit our website to learn more about the services provided, or call us at (865)342-5823.

Preventing Under-Eye Dark Circles

September 11, 2017

Anyone experiencing mild amounts of stress can attest to the appearance of under-eye circles. Many cases of eye circles can stem from genetics. Whether it be due to thin skin or an increase in pigment, under-eye circles are generally unsightly.

  • Use a product that contains retinol. Retinol improves the production of collagen, which can help manage both thin skin and dark pigmentation.
  • Sleep can also play a factor. Shoot for between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. In addition, sleeping on your back with an extra pillow helps keep fluid from pooling overnight. Be aware of allergens and keep a protective case over your pillow.
  • Avoid touching the area. Under-eye circles can appear from skin inflammation after rubbing your eyes. When using make-up remover towelettes, wipe gently in a single direction rather than vigorously rubbing back and forth.
  • Stay hydrated. The body retains as much water as possible when dehydrated, causing puffiness under the eyes. This means reducing alcohol consumption. If you’re seeing dark circles and drink often, it could mean the alcohol is dehydrating your body.
  • For a quick fix, cool down the inflamed area. Hold cold cucumber slices, gel eye masks or wash rags under your eyes for 10 to 20 minutes.

Everyone experiences under-eye circles. They can be avoided by taking necessary steps to care for your health and skin. Reach Knoxville Dermatology Group by calling (865)690-9467.
