The UltraPulse© Laser
Resurfacing Procedure is the
latest technologically advanced
way in which to remove undesired
wrinkles, scars, and uneven
pigmentation.
What is the laser resurfacing
procedure?
The UltraPulse© laser
resurfacing procedure is one of
the latest technologically
advanced ways in which to reduce
undesired wrinkles, scars, and
uneven pigmentation. The laser
works through a "layer by layer"
vaporization of the superficial
portions of the skin. The
advancement of this laser is due
to its high energy, shortened
pulse waveform which limits the
heat damage to the surrounding
regions of the actual wrinkle.

This allows for a more even
and clean resurfacing procedure
and minimizes the risk of
scarring and pigmentary changes. Previous
to this laser, high energy
carbon dioxide lasers were
utilized. This technology was
limited, however, because of the
inability to selectively deliver
a high energy pulse waveform in
a short duration. What is the
cost of the procedure? Is it
expensive? The cost of the
UltraPulse© laser procedure
depends on the number of units
that are actually treated. Units
are divided into the following
areas:
1) the area around the
mouth
2) the region around the
eyes, and
3) the cheek, forehead and
neck region Cost depends on
the number of these regions
which are treated.
Please ask our office staff
for details when you schedule a
consultation. Who may benefit
from UltraPulse® Laser? Most
patients with a history of
coarse wrinkling around the eyes
or mouth areas benefit
tremendously. Patients with a
long standing history of smoking
or sun exposure are at an
increased risk to develop deeper
wrinkles, which often can be
unsightly and troublesome for
the patient. Often a common
complaint from patients is that
it is difficult to put on
lipstick without it bleeding
onto the skin surface. Also
previous to this laser
technology, it was difficult to
remove deeper wrinkles around
the eyes unless a facelift was
performed. Thus, the laser
resurfacing procedure is
advantageous over other
alternatives because it is easy
and bloodless. How is the actual
resurfacing process performed?
Is it painful? Prior to starting
the procedure, we will have
initiated antibiotics to prevent
infection and antiviral agents
to prevent your developing a
cold sore. The skin is
subsequently prepared for
resurfacing with a mild cleanser
and the laser "paints" the
superficial layers of the skin
which are vaporized. Immediately
after the procedure, there is
some moderate swelling, oozing,
discomfort and redness. Swelling
may last several days. The skin
will heal in seven-ten days.
Once healed, make-up may then be
applied. The treated areas will
remain red to pink for up to
several months. Who are the best
candidates for the laser
resurfacing procedure? Patients
with: Fine wrinkles around the
eyes and mouth Uneven facial
pigmentation Superficial growths
and unwanted age spots Patients
with a lusterless complexion. |
