Knoxville Dermatology Group was founded
in 1971 to provide quality medical and
surgical care to dermatology patients in
East Tennessee. The physicians are all Board
Certified. From it's founding as a solo
practice July 1, 1971, Knoxville Dermatology
Group has been a growing and progressive
dermatology practice. Dr. Clark E. Julius
opened the first office in UT Physicians
Office Building with three examination rooms
and one employee.
Less than three years later, January 1,
1974, Dr. Charles I. Huddleston joined
Dr.
Julius in forming a corporation, the
Knoxville Dermatology Group, P.C. A pressing
need for additional space and personnel was
relieved within a few months when the office
next door was vacated and the expansion was
conveniently achieved by removal of the
connecting wall. This allowed the waiting
room and business office space to be doubled
and for the addition of three examination
rooms, a laboratory, offices for typing, the
Business Manager, and
Dr. Huddleston. Two years later when UT Hospital built an
addition to the Physicians Office Building,
Drs. Julius and
Huddleston, anticipating
continued practice growth, contracted for an
office 5,000 square feet in the new
addition. The enlarged office was occupied
in December 1977, and Dr. Anthony L. Meyers
joined the group in June 1978.
As the practice continued to grow, a large
number of patients lived in the expanding
West Knoxville area. To further accommodate
these patients, a satellite office was
designed and built in the Lovell Heights
Center on Kingston Pike. This one-physician
facility opened in January 1981. Each
physician in the group then scheduled
patients one day a week in the West
Knoxville Office and spent the remainder of
the week in the main office at UT Physicians
Office Building.
Dr. Lawrence L. Bushkell, Jr. joined the
group on May 1, 1986, bringing some of his
employees and a full patient base, which he
had built during his five years of practice
at Ft. Sanders Professional Building. The
Knoxville Dermatology Group then became one
of the largest dermatology groups practicing
in the state. |

Once more, expansion of facilities became a
priority and the decision was made to
enlarge the West Knoxville office to give a
more balanced patient load and distribution
of personnel at each office. Several options
and possible sites were explored by the
corporation before contracting to purchase
space in Medical Building One under
construction at Ft. Sanders West Medical
Mall on Kingston Pike at Mabry Hood Road. A
4,000 square foot office was designed which
was large enough to accommodate two
physicians, the support personnel, and an
expanded patient load. A suite for MOH's and
laser surgery was included. Medical Building
One was completed in July 1988, and the new
West Knoxville office opened for patients on
August 1, 1988. The physicians now schedule
patients two days a week at each office. |
